LFH Engineering targets hat-trick of international standards

A north-east specialist in engine pump manufacturing is working towards accreditation for new international standards to recognise existing good practice across its business activities.
Ellon-based LFH Engineering has achieved its transition to ISO 9001:2015 accreditation after demonstrating its quality management systems meet the international standard and is now preparing for an ISO 14001 assessment on its environmental management systems and procedures.
Work is also underway for an ISO 45001 assessment in the New Year on the company’s health and safety management systems.
With a workforce of 34 employees all based in Ellon, the business specialises in the design and manufacture of diesel engine coolant pumps, and offers full in-house pump production, repair and refurbishment services. These standards are a vital part in the company’s continued growth and development.
Around 75 percent of LFH Engineering’s work comes from overseas markets in Europe, North America and Asia, including the ship repair and shipbuilding markets, the nuclear energy sector and the locomotive industry.
Earlier this year, the business reported sales of £3m for its 2017/18 financial year up to the end of March, an increase of eight percent on the previous year’s figures.
Les Hill, Chief Executive Officer of LFH Engineering, said: “We pride ourselves on operating to the highest possible safety, environmental and quality standards and preparations are well underway for two upcoming international standard assessments in the coming months.
“David Wilson, our Senior Quality Assurance Engineer, is leading the effort to achieve each of these accreditations which will reinforce the good practices we are already carrying out in our environmental management systems as well as occupational health and safety performance.
“This is imperative for a business of our size as we are committed to looking after our people and the environment in which we operate.
“A significant amount of work goes in to continually reviewing our processes, procedures and management systems to ensure the business operates effectively, and we are aiming to complete the hat-trick of accreditations in 2019.
“Increasingly clients want to see that their suppliers are compliant with recognised international standards so being accredited in these areas will also increase business opportunities as we look to continue our sales growth in the future.”
Established in 2010, LFH Engineering comes with a long-established history in the design and manufacture of pumps, providing a range of products for ship propulsion systems, diesel power plants and the railway locomotive sector.
The business also offers a full range of pump tooling and service kits along with repair and refurbishment services.
